AJE Special Issue: The Future of U.S. Federal Education Policy–ESSA and Beyond

The American Journal of Education is devoted to original inquiries in education, to the evaluation and synthesis of educational scholarship, and to scholarly commentary on educational practice. The Journal seeks (1) to bridge and integrate the intellectual, methodological, and substantive diversity of educational scholarship and (2) to encourage a vigorous dialogue between educational scholars and practitioners across a full spectrum of education—from early childhood to adult education—including matters of policy and governance and of the management and conduct of schools, colleges, and universities.

We are excited to announce that the American Journal of Education is currently seeking papers for an upcoming special issue centered on insights for the Biden administration and the future of federal education policy. The special issue is entitled, The Future of U.S. Federal Education Policy–ESSA and Beyond. Several papers considering implementation, decentralization, equity, civil rights, and the shifting political dynamics from NCLB to ESSA are slated for inclusion in the issue. Through this call, we are open to other papers that thoughtfully consider ESSA but also papers that focus on federal education policy more broadly.

Manuscripts will be reviewed for the significance of the problem, the originality of the contribution, the cogency of the method and argument, and the crispness and clarity of prose. For more general information regarding AJE author guidelines, please see https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/journals/aje/instruct.

For this call, structured abstracts or proposals for papers will be reviewed on a rolling basis now through March 22, 2021. Submissions and/or inquiries about this special issue should be sent to ajed@psu.edu where they will be promptly reviewed by AJE and special issue guest editors. Authors of promising abstracts/proposals will be invited to submit their full manuscripts for review.
